The theater was packed. The laughing was loud. People loved this film. Me? I thought it was just OK. That said, I’ll admit that I’m not the easiest person to make laugh. Some parts were funnier than others and some parts were just a little too ridiculous. The idea is clever. A little boy with no friends makes a Christmas wish asking for his teddy bear to come to life to be his best friend. His wish comes true and somehow it’s very easy to just accept when this teddy bear comes to life.
The jokes were raunchy and a little over the top silly but by the time the end rolled around, I wanted a talking teddy bear. Mark Wahlberg , who is by no means the greatest actor, was pretty endearing and I actually enjoyed watching him in this. They script manages to include a love story, a villain, an action packed adventure and even a tear jerking moment on top of the animated bear storyline. It all works because we want it too. It works because it’s the guy who did Family Guy and who doesn’t like Family Guy.
I think it’s worth going to see just because it’s original and EVERYONE is going to be talking about it. But if you are the least bit sensitive or easily offended in matters of race or worldly events, stay home. Otherwise, grab a friend, have a seat and don’t take it to seriously. You’ll laugh.
